The small charming traditional 'boere' town of Louis Trichardt, is still known officially as Louis Trichardt. Only the municipality is known as Makhado. Louis Trichardt in Limpopo in South Africa is settled close to the Soutpansberg (Salt pan mountain). This is South Africas most northern mountain range and this rugged terrain is filled with a famous tourist attraction - the giant boabab tree.
The Soutpansberg mountain range at Louis Trichardt, South Africa is 130km long and is so named because of the large salt pan situated on the western slopes. The highest point, called Lajuma is home to scores of eagles, falcons and other predatory bird species.
Other bird species including the rare Red-throated Twinspot, Knysna Lourie and the Naringa Togon can be found by tourists visiting this diverse area. This makes it a prime birding spot! Another tourist attraction to these mountains is the fact that these mountains are the spot where the largest concentration of leopard can be found - in the world!
There is an abundance of suitable accommodation to be found in Louis Trichardt, making this a prime tourist destination. Choose from a wide selection of B&B's, self catering accommodation, lodges and game lodges, guest houses and backpackers.
